Massive Fine For Coach Company
A coach company has received fines and been ordered to pay court costs which total £254,565. This particulartly large
fine was awarded for multiple drivers hours and other tachograph offences although further details of the offences have not been released.
VOSA's Eastern Region Investigations Team had spent at least ten weeks investigating EPI
Coaches Ltd who were originally investigated eight months ago in June 2009. We can only assume this was following
a failed roadside inspection where a drivers tacho disks or digital data were examined and found to be lacking, having a knock on effect
to the OCRS of the licence which lead to further inspections.
Alex Fiddes (Operations Director for VOSA) said: "VOSA are dedicated to improving road safety and a large proportion of that is
ensuring drivers are adhering to the rules set in place"
Curerntly, EPI Coaches Ltd's operators licence is listed as "surrendered", meaning the business can not operate. Where this leaves the 20
coach strong business is uncertain but it does demonstrate quite clearly where poor transport management can lead a business.
There is also a case against the companies eleven employed drivers which should be heard on the 16th Feb.

| dave, L | Well done to Vosa, EPI Coaches and any transport company PCV or LGV, who are prepared to risk death need to be taken off our roads. I have been a coach driver and sometimes companies` can put drivers under pressure to break the rules.   |
| grumpy (croydon) | as a croydon resident, also hgv operator, thank god for vosa,at least one less to blight these s.london roads.   |
| john | Its great when the company can now trade under a different name and still have the same owner. Vosa are aware that the original owner lost his o licence, and now he has managed to take it overagain. its bad, a total laugh at vosa. go to the epi website and it links you to the new company . ha ha a real mockery of the law   |
| Mrs Steele | its about time the government changed the law on bus drivers hours per day from 16 hour to 10 hours per day, because there are bus companies making drivers work too longer hours so they are being burnt out and make mistakes because they are tired.   |
| jack | what about farm tractors doing hire and reward on the road using red deisel putting good hauliers of the road get a grip vosa   |
| jacko | a coach company forces drivers to do what they shouldnt i'e tacho and too many hours get fired, some cases i dont think the drivers should be punished just the owner of the firm, the drivers are pressured to do it or lose their job, i dont think thats fair   |
