Operators of HGV vehicles in Northern Ireland can expect a similar Operator Licensing scheme as enforced in the UK. Currently NI Operators don't have the same licence types as UK operators licence holders. Under new proposed legislation, which according to sources should be disclosed before the end of the year, the NI operators licence system will be brought in line with the rest of the UK.
This will mean that operators based in Northern Ireland will have to adhere to the same undertakings as UK operators. It is expected that the NI version will be an exact mirror of the UK operators licence legislation.
At this time, it is not known how the legislation will be phased in. Operators will need time to apply for Operators Licences and to become compliant with the system. OLMC will be tracking the Northern Ireland Operators Licence legislation, sign up to our newsletter to stay up to date.
